The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, has arrested seven suspects in connection with the killing of Badmos Olatunji Monsur, a site engineer who was murdered during a violent invasion of a Lagos State Government-allocated property in Agidingbi.
The suspects – Abdullahi Ogunleye (a.k.a Jogunomi), Ismaila Kayode, Mathew Babayomi, Gbemiga Adebayo, Olaoluwa Omosofe, Misiliu Jimoh, and Idris Olanrewaju – were arrested following a directive from the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, based on a petition by the victim’s employer.
Alhaji Akeem Osuolale, Chairman of Nigercat Nigeria Group of Companies and employer of the deceased, commended the IGP and AIG Margaret Ochalla, the AIG in charge of FCID, for their swift and professional handling of the case.
“I want to begin by commending the Inspector General of Police and officers of Force Criminal Investigation Department for acting decisively and arresting the suspects connected to the brutal killing of my site engineer,” Osuolale told journalists.
However, he expressed deep concern over alleged efforts by powerful sponsors to derail justice. According to him, there is growing pressure on the investigation team from top police officers seeking the release of the suspects.
“This is not the first time these individuals have been arrested. In the past, they were released the same day from Alausa Police Station and FCID Alagbon. Meanwhile, some of my employees are still in detention on the orders of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police,” he alleged.
Osuolale revealed that the disputed property was lawfully acquired from the Lagos State Government, with all required fees and documentation properly processed. He criticized the state government’s silence in the face of violent encroachment on legally allocated land.
“We alerted the police before the attack, but our concerns were ignored. Now, over 25 armed thugs are stationed on our property. These individuals openly threaten us and claim they have the police and judiciary in their pockets,” he said.
He further alleged that the sponsors behind the suspects have boasted about their influence over the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), expressing confidence that the suspects would eventually be released, even if charged to court.
“After the killing, we petitioned the IGP, who ordered a discreet investigation. CSP Taiwo Oyewale led the operation and arrested seven suspects while others escaped. But the team is now under pressure to free those in custody,” he warned.
Osuolale called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to urgently intervene and ensure justice for the slain engineer. “This is a test of governance, justice, and protection for law-abiding citizens. Justice must prevail,” he said.
