All over Nigeria, what the people earnestly yearn and clamour for is a high standard of democratic values from their leaders. This is because the people rely so much on them for a better standard of living as well as the realization of an optimum delivery perfect governance. In Katsina State, Mallam Dikko Umar Radda is not relenting in his effort to deliver the best of administrative resonance which will directly impact on the lives of his people. The good people of Katsina State covering all the 34 Local Government Areas of Bakori, Batagarawa, Batsari, Baure, Bindawa, Charanchi, Dan Musa, Dandume, Danja, Daura, Dutsi, Dutsin-Ma, Faskari, Funtua, Ingawa, Jibia, Kafur, Kaita, Kankara, Kankia, Katsina, Kurfi, Kusada, Mai’Adua, Malumfashi, Mani, Mashi, Matazu, Musawa, Rimi, Sabuwa, Safana, Sandamu and Zango.

In all these LGAs, His Excellency Governor Radda has performed exquisitely and effectively to the delight of his people even up to the remotest areas of the state. Governor Rada’s great achievements and monumental performances in health, education, agriculture, transportation, electricity, water supply, road construction and rehabilitation can never be under estimated. As a committed man of the people and a straight-forward politician, His Excellency Governor Radda has created the best of avenues to improve on the lives of the people of Katsina state through groundbreaking empowerment and employment strategies, embarking on stringent and committed method of improving the welfares of civil servants in the state, tactically enhancing strong security approach towards protecting and safeguarding the lives and properties of the people and many more.

In the area of human development, Governor Rada impacted so much on the old and the young in the state, touching virtually all the strategic areas of lives be it on their commercial activities, formal or informal businesses. All market men and women in Katsina State, artisans, students and workers generally are enjoying the benefits of Governor Radda’s positive administrative strategies. A developmental catalyst, Governor Dikko Umar Rada served meritoriously as the Executive Sole Administrator of Charanchi Local Government Area under the administration of former late President Umar Musa Yar’Adua. Malam Dikko Umaru Radda Phd CON was born on the 10th of September 1969 into the family of Beriberi Umaru in the quaint village of Hayingada, Dutsin-ma Local Government Area of Katsina State. As fate would have it, the creation of Katsina State in 1987 coincided with the dawn of Dikko’s professional life. He is a passionate young teacher, fresh from his studies, molding young minds at Radda Day Secondary School, yet, even as he imparted knowledge to others, his quest for education burned brighter than ever. In 1992, Dikko embarked on a new chapter at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi. Four years later, he emerged with a B. Tech (Hons) in Agricultural Economics and Extension, a testament to his dedication and intellect. Moving forward in his academic sojourn, the hallowed halls of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria beckoned, first with a Master’s in Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology, then another in International Affairs and Diplomacy.

The young Dikko’s destiny was intertwined with greatness, as he was named after his illustrious great-grandfather, the Emir of Katsina, Muhammadu Dikko. At the age of five, Dikko’s eyes were bright with curiosity, taking his first steps into an Islamic school, thus beginning a lifelong love affair with knowledge. From 1974 to 1980, the halls of Radda Primary School echoed with his eager footsteps, setting the stage for an academic journey that spanned decades. The 1980s saw the young Dikko navigate the challenges of secondary education at Zaria Teachers College, emerging victorious in 1985. But his thirst for learning was far from quenched. By 1989, he added a National Certificate of Education (NCE) from the College of Education Kafanchan to his growing list of accomplishments.

The crowning jewel of Dikko’s academic pursuits came in 2015 when he was awarded a PhD in Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. But even this was not enough for the insatiable learner. Dikko crossed oceans to reach the prestigious Harvard University Business School in Boston, USA, where in 2018 he added yet another feather to his cap—a certificate in Senior Managers in Government. Delving deeper into the extraordinary life of Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, a man whose career trajectory is as diverse as it is impressive, was discovered. The ambitious Dikko stepped into the world of finance in 1999, joining the ranks of the now-defunct FSB International Bank Plc. After an intensive two-month induction at the bank’s headquarters, where he forged connections that proved invaluable in years that followed.

However, fate had other plans, and in 2003, a pivotal moment arrived when Dikko received an invitation from his brother-in-law and political mentor, none other than the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’adua. This call to service changed the course of Dikko’s life, catapulting him into the world of local governance. Nominated to serve as the sole administrator of Charanchi Local Government Area, Dikko’s leadership skills blossomed. His dedication and impactful reign led to his election as Executive Chairman and later, his appointment as Caretaker Chairman. These years at the grassroots level were a crucible, forging Dikko’s political acumen and honing his skills as an administrator—qualities that defined his roles till the present. In recognition of Dikko’s tireless efforts and leadership, Dikko was bestowed with the prestigious traditional title of Gwagwaren Katsina—”the leader of struggle.” This title wasn’t just an honour; it was a prophecy of the challenges and triumphs that lay ahead.

The halls of power in Abuja beckoned next. From 2012 to 2014, Dikko served as a Senior Legislative Aide in the National Assembly, gaining invaluable insight into the workings of national politics. But it was his role as the National Welfare Secretary of the newly formed All Progressives Congress (APC) that truly showcased his political prowess. The excitement and pressure of being at the heart of a historic merger of opposition parties, working tirelessly to shape the future of Nigerian politics. The APC’s sweeping victory in the 2015 elections opened new doors for Dikko. Governor Aminu Bello Masari, CFR, FNIM of Katsina State, recognized Dikko’s talents and appointed him as his Chief of Staff. But the universe had even grander plans for the humble Dikko.

In a twist of fate that would define the next chapter of his career, Dikko was appointed as the Director General/CEO of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN). Faced with enormous challenges, particularly poor funding, Dikko didn’t falter. Instead, he drew upon his vast experience and innovative spirit to revolutionize the agency. Over six transformative years, Dikko became the architect of numerous groundbreaking programs that breathed new life into Nigeria’s MSME sub-sector. His tenure at SMEDAN wasn’t just a job; it was a mission to empower entrepreneurs and fuel the engine of Nigeria’s economic growth.

In April 2022, Dikko’s eyes alight with determination as he embarked on the most audacious quest yet—the race for the highest office in Katsina State. The political arena was a battlefield, and Dikko emerged victorious from a fiercely contested primary election, securing his position as the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC). But for Dikko, this was just the beginning. With characteristic zeal and an unwavering commitment to service, he launched a campaign tour that became the stuff of legend. The sheer scale of his ambition—a journey that took him to every nook and cranny of Katsina State. Thirty-four Local Government Areas, 361 electoral wards—not a single one left unvisited. This wasn’t just a campaign; it was a pilgrimage to connect with the very heart of Katsina.

But it was what happened next that truly set Dikko apart. A politician who dared to transcend the boundaries of safety, who walked boldly into the lion’s den—the bandit’s colony. This wasn’t a mere photo opportunity; it was a profound act of empathy, a desire to see and understand the plight of the most vulnerable members of society. Dikko’s compassion wasn’t just a campaign strategy; it was a fundamental part of his character. In 2016, long before his gubernatorial ambitions, he established the Gwagwaren Foundation. This philanthropic venture became a beacon of hope for the downtrodden and less privileged, a testament to Dikko’s belief that true leadership means lifting others.

Gracias! Dikko’s tireless efforts and visionary leadership didn’t go unnoticed. The National Civil Service Union bestowed upon him a distinguished leadership award, while Revenue Magazine recognized his excellence in the public sector with an award in 2022. These accolades were not just honours; they were affirmations of Dikko’s impact and the trail he was blazing. The climax of this political odyssey came on Monday, May 29th, 2023, when Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, standing tall and proud, was sworn in as the fifth civilian Governor of Katsina State. This wasn’t just a personal victory; it was a landslide win that spoke volumes about the trust and hope the people of Katsina had placed in him.

Importantly, Governor Radda’s first year in office was marked by transformative initiatives across multiple sectors. In the realm of security, he established the Katsina State Community Watch (KSCW), comprising 1,466 well-trained and equipped personnel. This initiative was complemented by a significant investment of over N10 billion in security infrastructure, including 10 armoured personnel carriers, 61 branded Hilux vehicles, 700 motorcycles, drones, and advanced communication networks. His leadership in regional security matters led to his appointment as Chairman of the Northwest Governors Forum, a bipartisan organ for regional development. In this capacity, he led the Governors to a security summit in the USA and spearheaded the Northern West Security Summit in collaboration with the UNDP.

In healthcare and education, Governor Radda’s administration made significant strides. He oversaw the construction of a 12-bed capacity dialysis center at Gen. Amadi Rimi Specialist Hospital and upgraded the Faskari Comprehensive Health Center to a general hospital. In education, he approved 75 new secondary schools and disbursed megagrants to 115 schools. His commitment to nurturing human capital was further demonstrated by the sponsorship of 41 medical students to study MBBS in Egypt, with a two-year tuition and upkeep payment of N774,344,600. These initiatives, among many others, showcase Governor Radda’s holistic approach to governance and his dedication to improving the lives of Katsina State residents.

The accolades continued to pour in, recognizing Governor Radda’s exceptional leadership and vision. In 2023, the Federal Government of Nigeria, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, conferred upon him the prestigious national award of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON). His contributions to healthcare were acknowledged with a Meritorious Award from the Nigerian Medical Association. His community-driven approach to governance earned him the Award of Excellence as the Most Distinguished Community-Driven Policy-Oriented Governor of the Year. Leadership Newspaper honoured him as the Governor of the Year 2023, while Democracy Heroes Award Africa named him the Icon Personality of the year 2023. His impact on transportation was recognized with a Transport Fellowship Award by the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA).

As we close this chapter of Dikko’s story, we see a man not just defined by his political achievements but by his roles as a husband and father. Happily married to two wives and blessed with ten children, Dikko’s family life reflects the richness and complexity of his journey. From a curious child in Hayingada to the Governor’s mansion in Katsina, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda’s life is a tapestry woven with threads of ambition, compassion, and unwavering dedication to public service. His story isn’t just a political biography; it’s a testament to the power of education, perseverance, and a genuine desire to make a difference. As Katsina State turns a new page under his leadership, one can only imagine the chapters yet to be written in this fascinating saga of service and transformation.
