Investor Hails Appointment of New IGP, Calls for Strategic Police Reforms

A prominent Nigerian investor, Alhaji Akeem Osuolale, has praised the recent appointment of Tunji Disu as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), describing it as a timely and strategic move by the President aimed at repositioning the Nigerian Police Force.
Osuolale, Chairman of Nigercat Nigeria Limited, welcomed the decision, noting that the appointment reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening security and improving professionalism within the police.
According to the investor, many Nigerians are optimistic that the new police chief will bring operational experience and leadership capable of addressing the country’s growing security challenges.
“The appointment comes at a critical time when citizens are demanding effective policing and decisive action against crime across the country,” Osuolale said. “I really appreciate the step the President has taken. The change in police leadership is timely, and the person appointed is well qualified for the position.”
Osuolale expressed confidence that Disu’s extensive experience in policing would translate into enhanced operational effectiveness and improved security outcomes nationwide. He described the new IGP as a “real policeman” who understands operational policing and knows how to respond decisively to security challenges.
The investor predicted that Nigerians would begin to see meaningful reforms and improved policing within the first six months of Disu’s leadership. “I am very sure he will perform, and he will not disappoint Nigerians. Give him six months, and you will begin to see changes in the police,” he added.
Highlighting priorities for the new police leadership, Osuolale urged a focus on tackling the country’s worsening security situation and ensuring effective coordination within the police hierarchy to restore public confidence.
He also drew attention to persistent disputes within Nigeria’s land sector, warning that criminal elements often infiltrate land transactions under the guise of legitimate agents or developers.
“I am a land investor with all my documents. Many people present themselves as agents or developers, but some are criminals. Strong policing will help address these issues and protect legitimate investors,” he said.
Osuolale concluded by reiterating his confidence that the new police leadership would strengthen law enforcement operations and improve security across the country. He noted that the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun marks an opportunity to eliminate some unwholesome practices within the police force.
