The Auke National Development Association (ANDA), the apex socio-cultural body representing the interests of the Auke community, has been thrown into mourning following the painful demise of its immediate past National Chairman, Elder Patrick Yunisha.
Elder Yunisha passed away at a hospital in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, after a brief illness. His death comes less than a year after he formally handed over the reins of leadership to his successor, Mr. Negedu Benard, on October 1, 2024, marking the end of a remarkable tenure characterized by selfless service, community-driven leadership, and unwavering commitment to the development of Auke land.
In an official statement released to the media, the National Publicity Secretary of ANDA, Comrade Mark Uloko, and signed by the National Chairman, Mr. Negedu Benard, the association described Elder Yunisha as a visionary leader, an exemplary patriot, and a peace ambassador whose contributions to the socio-economic and cultural advancement of Auke will never be forgotten.
According to the statement, “Elder Patrick Yunisha was a unifying figure who gave his all for the progress of the Auke community. He led with wisdom, integrity, and humility. His tenure as chairman was marked by landmark projects, reconciliation efforts, youth engagement, and strategic initiatives that strengthened the fabric of our community.”
Mr. Benard, while reacting to the news of his predecessor’s passing, expressed deep sadness and acknowledged the vacuum left by Elder Yunisha’s exit, noting that it will be extremely difficult to fill. “The loss of Elder Patrick Yunisha is a monumental one, not just for ANDA, but for the entire Auke nation. At a time when his wealth of experience, fatherly counsel, and leadership wisdom are most needed, death has dealt us a heavy blow,” he said.
The association extended heartfelt condolences to the Yunisha family, friends, associates, and the entire Auke community, urging all to take solace in the impactful life he lived and the legacy he leaves behind.
Plans for a befitting farewell are already underway, as the community prepares to honour the life and times of a man many described as a beacon of peace, unity, and progressive development.
Elder Patrick Yunisha is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. His legacy will continue to inspire current and future generations of leaders within Auke and beyond.
