In a heart-wrenching appeal that has drawn national attention, Mrs. Ikuru, wife of Prophet Godwin Ikuru—a prominent cleric and advocate for peace and unity—has raised alarm over what she describes as a systematic attempt by high-ranking police officers to destroy her husband’s life and silence his voice.
Fighting back tears during a press briefing in Lagos, Mrs. Ikuru made an emotional plea to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the National Assembly, civil society groups, and Nigerians at large to intervene and save her family from what she termed “a dangerous, targeted persecution.”
“My husband is not a criminal. He is a prophet who has devoted his life to praying for this country, promoting unity, and speaking truth with boldness. But today, we are living in fear, hunted by those who swore to protect the people,” she said.
According to her, the ordeal began with a minor parking misunderstanding along Awolowo Way in Ikeja—an incident she claimed was amicably resolved. However, what followed, she alleges, was a troubling escalation: repeated harassment, arbitrary arrests, illegal raids, and the confiscation of her husband’s personal belongings.
She accused several senior officers of being behind what she called a “vendetta,” naming the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; a senior officer, Kamal Yusuf; Police Legal Officer, Barrister Bankole Habitat; and DCP Akin, head of the IGP Monitoring Unit, as key actors in the ongoing intimidation.
“Our home has been invaded without warrants. Our staff have been brutalized. My husband’s vehicles and personal effects have been taken away without any court order. His cook, driver, and even my brother have been unjustly arrested,” she revealed, her voice breaking with emotion.
Mrs. Ikuru also expressed concern over the psychological and emotional toll the ordeal has taken on their children and extended family, noting that Prophet Ikuru’s health has deteriorated due to stress, fear, and unending threats.
“What has he done to deserve this?” she asked. “This is a man who prophesied the emergence of President Tinubu as Nigeria’s leader. He stood for peace when the nation was on edge. Yet today, the same country he defended is punishing him.”
In a passionate appeal, she urged the President and other key national stakeholders to act before it is too late.
“I am speaking not just as a wife, but as a mother whose children cry at night, afraid for their father’s life. If anything happens to my husband, let it be on record that we cried out and the nation turned a blind eye,” she said.
