The Lagos State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), CN Abubakar Liman Wali, on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, led a delegation of his management team on a courtesy visit to Checkers Africa Limited, a leading food and beverage company in Nigeria.
The visit was part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to strengthen public-private partnerships in the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign and to appreciate the company’s support during the 2025 United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, held at Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo.
Speaking during the visit, Commander Wali commended Checkers Africa for demonstrating corporate responsibility by aligning with NDLEA’s vision to create a drug-free society. He stressed that the fight against drug abuse cannot be left to law enforcement agencies alone, but requires the active participation of corporate bodies, communities, and individuals.
“Drug abuse is a societal menace that threatens the future of our youth and the stability of our nation. We need strong collaborations like the one we share with Checkers Africa to sustain awareness campaigns, enhance capacity building, and support preventive measures at all levels,” the NDLEA Commander said.
He further highlighted the agency’s commitment to deepening preventive education, advocacy, and sensitization campaigns across Lagos State, while urging the private sector to continue playing a pivotal role in building healthier communities.
In his response, the Managing Director of Checkers Africa Limited, represented by the Head of Marketing, Mr. Timothy Ogundele, expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed the company’s readiness to partner with NDLEA.
“As a responsible corporate organization, we are committed to youth development, health awareness, and nation-building. Supporting NDLEA’s initiatives aligns with our CSR mandate, and we will continue to explore avenues where we can collaborate in the fight against drug abuse,” Ogundele said.
The visit also provided a platform for discussions on future areas of collaboration, including community outreach, educational programs, and joint sensitization projects targeting young people, who are often the most vulnerable to drug abuse.
The meeting ended with an exchange of goodwill gestures and a renewed pledge by both parties to work hand-in-hand in advancing the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign in Lagos State and beyond.
