The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has held a workshop for corps employers in Sokoto State, with a focus on the welfare, productivity, and security of corps members.
The workshop, which took place on Monday, brought together employers of corps members from various sectors, including government agencies, private organizations, and community groups.
In his opening remarks, the Sokoto State Coordinator of NYSC, Alhaji Usman Yakubu-Yaro, emphasized the importance of corps employers in providing a conducive environment for corps members to render quality service.
Yakubu-Yaro lamented the increasing cases of rejection, underutilization, and ill-treatment of corps members, and urged employers to prioritize their welfare and security.
He also identified other challenges faced by corps members, including delayed request for corps members, abscondment, and lack of accommodation.
The workshop featured presentations and discussions on the role of corps employers in supporting the NYSC scheme, as well as the challenges and opportunities faced by corps members.
A resource person, Dr. Okoro Robertson, emphasized the importance of corps employers in molding the productive lives of corps members. He cautioned against redeploying corps members without cogent reasons, stating that this could counter the scheme’s objective of national unity and integration.
The NYSC Governing Board Chairperson, Hajia Hadiza Galadima, reiterated the Sokoto State Government’s commitment to corps members’ welfare and safety.
The workshop was attended by representatives of various organizations, including government agencies, private companies, and community groups.
